摘要

The human brain undergoes intricate developmental processes at early life stage, involving complex interactions between brain structure and function. Understanding how the white matter supports functional activity can aid in early brain disease diagnoses and explain related behaviors. However, the relationship between brain function and structure during typical development especially for infants is remain unclear. In this paper, we characterize this relationship by constructing structure-function coupling in different scales using data of Baby Connectome Project with 318 subjects aging 0-3 years. Linear mixed effect model is employed to characterize the longitudinal developmental patterns of structure-function coupling. The result shows that the primary sensory has a higher average coupling value and exhibit a more obvious decreasing trend against age compared with high-level regions. Furthermore, the structure-function coupling pattern demonstrates lateralization properties in the attention network and language networks. Finally, fine motor of Mullen scale is found to be significantly correlated with structure-function coupling in the frontoparietal control network and default mode network. Our works figure out a clearer process of how different brain regions with distinct function cooperate during development towards a more complicated system and support the emergence of postnatal cognitive tasks, reflecting similar trends correspond with adulthood brain activity.
