摘要 | Metabolic syndromes, such as obesity and high blood glucose have become major health risks worldwide.Due to the overeating of high-energy content food and reduction of energy expenditure, more people are becoming obese.Unfortunately, there are few effective drugs to treat obesity, which calls for fundamental breakthroughs in feeding and energy expenditure studies.Feeding is primarily regulated by the central nervous system(CNS) and energy expenditure is also critically regulated by the CNS.However, the molecular mechanism for regulating feeding reward and motivation remains poorly understood and whether other subcortical areas are also important are not well known. Here, we found activation of zona incerta(ZI) induced reward feeding and hunting.Sensory recordings show it integrate multisensory stimuli to direct hunting.Motivation assays suggest it encode positive motivational value.ZI projects to the PAG to exert its function in hunting and motivation, and projects to the PVT to control reward feeding. Thus, we identified the ZI as a critical site to encode sensory-linked appetitive behaviors. |
