Magnetic Imaging of Thimble Tube Using Integrated Array TMR Sensors

摘要To avoid safety accidents and economic losses, the structure health of the thimble tube that provides a guide and channel for the neutron flux measurement probe in a nuclear reactor core should be evaluated periodically. It is difficult for the current probe based on an induction coil to quantify the defects. This paper presents a probe with array tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) sensors, which are integrated into a circular printed circuit board (PCB) with a 4.8 mm diameter. It can obtain a magnetic field image in a probe pass. The defect depth and circumferential length are estimated by analyzing the image, based on which the safety state of the thimble tube can be quantitatively assessed. © 2023 IEEE.
