Hardware Acceleration of s-Wave based PA Image Reconstruction

摘要Photoacoustic imaging, as a new medical imaging technology, has developed rapidly in recent years. In many preclinical and clinical applications, rapid and high-quality reconstruction of photoacoustic images is a crucial requirement. While some simple and easy-to-implement algorithms can achieve image reconstruction with less time consumption, severe artifacts caused by limited views or subsampling often lead to poor image quality. In this paper, we propose a model-based hardware acceleration architecture based on superposed Waves (s-Wave) to enhance the performance of the image reconstruction. We conducted experiments on FPGA platform using phantoms and in vivo data to demonstrate the feasibility and potential applications of the design. The results show that the FPGA-based hardware acceleration design not only has lower power consumption than CPU or GPU, but also maintains a fast imaging speed while providing high-quality reconstructed image. © 2023 IEEE.
