In this paper, a new parameter estimation method with magnitude measurements of voltages and currents is proposed for the power network. Compared to the existing parameter estimation method that uses PMUs measurements to estimate the line parameters of a power network, the proposed method introduces entries of admittance matrix and the phase angles of voltage and current injection as unknown states to be estimated. The proposed method also considers the load estimation step in the formulation. Afterwards, Newton's method is utilized to solve the nonlinear optimization problem. Numerical experiments in the WSCC 9-bus system demonstrate accurate and reliable estimation of both admittance matrix and phase angles of magnitude measurements. The proposed method also demonstrates robustness towards measurement errors. © 2022 IEEE.
